This Christmas season has been filled with fun traditions and memories. I didn't feel as if we cram-packed everything in like we sometimes do, and there were plenty of days to rest and reflect on the meaning of the season. The kids seemed to have a really great month of fun activities.
Early December, we saw Santa ride into town on a fire truck. We walked around town to do a scavenger hunt looking for a specific ornament in store windows. Then had cookies & made a craft while we waited to see Santa.
The visit to Santa was very little stress. We were in and out and he did a great job, in spite of a shy Abi and fussy Jacob. Leah requested an American Girl Doll, apparently a popular one. Andrew requested Spiderman gloves that shoot real webs & water.
Abi wouldn't sit with him but at least posed for a picture. Jacob was just fascinated enough to sit quietly a minute or two, so long as we didn't take his toy out of his hand.
On another day, we made a gingerbread house. We let Daddy assemble the house and then the kids just put on candy (only eating a little along the way!).
We watched lots of Christmas movies (the kids new favorite is Elf), enjoyed hot chocolate, and had a pizza night.
I took the three older kids to see a version of the Nutcracker in town. There was no ballet, just original songs. It was very kid-friendly and a great first play for them to enjoy. Leah has now caught the theater bug and hopes to be in it next year.
We also celebrated with our church family at a fun Yankee Swap, where we always laugh a lot at the funny gifts people bring to exchange.
