Dance Recital

What a great year Leah’s had in dance. She really seems to enjoy going to class and I think it is really maturing her. She often has anxiety when she’s apart from me but she rarely has a problem going with her teacher and classmates to dance by herself. Her studio is big but they do a great job at making the girls feel special. They are very low pressure but always just encourage them to do their best. Leah of course loves dressing up so naturally she was so excited about having 2 different costumes for her recital. She was also so excited about dancing on the “big girl” stage. I thought she would be nervous, but she really wasn’t at all—and she did amazing!

She was a natural on stage. Though they didn’t do a whole lot, just getting out on stage in front of so many people, smiling and moving, was a huge accomplishment and I was so proud of our little ballerina! I am starting to understand the “dance mom” syndrome and truly hope Leah chooses to continue in dance as she gets older—there’s just something about seeing your little girl on stage all dressed up showing off her talent. Plus, the older girls we saw in the show were so cool to watch! I’ll have to practice on the hair & makeup though—still can’t quite figure out how to get her bangs to stay out of her face!

I wasn’t able to get any good pictures during the recital because we weren’t allowed to use a flash, but we’ll be getting a video DVD soon. It was also hard to get good posed shots of her in her costume, she hates looking at the camera. I only bought the class picture because the studio individual pictures were pricey.

She had two costumes. The theme of their recital was Childhood Memories. So her ballet number was a dance with Winnie the Pooh. How grown up does she look in her makeup??

In her tap number she was a little flower.
